Abstract |
A 32-year-old pregnant woman complained of a headache, visual disturbances, abdominal pain, and edema in both legs at 29
weeks of gestation. Because of severe hypertension and pulmonary congestion, a Cesarean section was performed the same week.
The patient was subsequently evaluated for sustained hypertension and hypokalemia. Her plasma aldosterone level was markedly
elevated, and abdominal computed tomography showed a left adrenal tumor. Primary aldosteronism due to an aldosterone producing-
adenoma was diagnosed. Laparoscopic adrenalectomy for a 1.5-cm left adrenal adenoma resulted in normalization of the patient’s
blood pressure and serum potassium level. (Korean J Med 77:S1162-S1165, 2009) |
