Abstract
Warfarin-induced liver disease is an uncommon entity which can cause acute hepatitis. A 66-year-old man was admitted to the hospital presenting with dyspnea and hypoxemia. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography of the chest showed massive intraluminal filling defects in both pulmonary arteries. We diagnosed this patient with pulmonary artery thromboembolism and treated him with low molecular weight heparin and warfarin. After 3 days, we stopped low molecular weight heparin and continued therapy with warfarin. After 8 days, the patient complained of nausea, and AST, ALT, and total bilirubin were found to be elevated. We did not use hepatotoxic drugs, except warfarin. Viral and autoimmune hepatitis markers were all negative. We did not find any lesions on contrast-enhanced computed tomography of the abdomen. After stopping warfarin, AST, ALT, and total bilirubin decreased. We diagnosed the patient with warfarin-induced hepatitis. Thus, we report this rare case together with a review of the literature.
