Abstract
Chronic neutrophilic leukemia (CNL) is a rare chronic myeloproliferative disorder that's characterized by persistent mature neutrophilic leukocytosis, hypercellular bone marrow without the Philadelphia chromosome, splenomegaly, an increased LAP score and an increased vitamin B12 level. CNL is not associated with myelodysplastic syndrome or myelodysplatic/myeloproliferative disorder. Up until recently, only about 30 cases of CNL have been suitable for the up-to-date WHO classification system. Further, any case of solid tumor that was diagnosed during cytoreductive treatment of CNL has not yet been reported. We present here a rare case of rectal cancer that was the second primary cancer in a CNL patient. This patient was treated with hydroxyurea for 4 years, and this was associated with the progression of CNL from the chronic phase to an accelerated phase after postoperative adjuvant treatment for rectal cancer.(Korean J Med 72:S309-S313, 2007) Key Words : Chronic neutrophilic leukemia, Rectal cancer, Second primary cancer
