Abstract |
Clear cell sarcoma is a rare malignant soft tissue neoplasm and it mainly affects young adults. The predilection sites are the extremities, and especially the foot and ankle. It is slowly growing tumor, but it uncommonly shows a rapidly progressive course.
We present here a case of clear cell sarcoma that rapidly progressed with systemic lymph nodes metastases in a 21-year-old woman. The histopathologic findings showed compact nests of round to oval shaped clear cells that were surrounded by thin fibrous septa.
The tumor cells had reactivity for HMB-45 and S-100 protein immunohistochemical stain. Several such cases have been reported in Korea, and we report there on another case of clear cell sarcoma in the right buttock muscle with an emphasis on its systemic lymph node metastases at the initial presentation, the shorter clinical course and the poor prognosis. The patient passed away from rapid tumor progression 1 month after the tentative diagnosis.(Korean J Med 71:S1090-S1094, 2006) |
