Abstract
Cancer of the ampulla of Vater is an uncommon disease that constitutes approximately 0.2% of gastrointestinal tract cancer and 6% of peri-ampullary cancer. Generally, it spreads to regional lymph nodes and the liver, and about 50% of the patients already have regional metastasis when the disease is diagnosed. Few reports have described other distant metastases, including that of the scalp. We report a patient with cancer of the ampulla of Vater who complained of a non-tender, palpable nodule on the scalp. A skin biopsy confirmed that the scalp nodule was due to metastasis in ampullary cancer.
Key Words: Ampulla of Vater; Scalp; Neoplasm metastasis
