Abstract |
Atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis may result in hypertension and ischemic nephropathy. We report successful percutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty (PTRA) with stent placement for total occlusion of the right renal artery in a 68-year-old patient with uncontrolled hypertension. To our knowledge, this has never been undertaken before in Korea. Magnetic resonance (MR) angiography revealed total occlusion of the right renal artery with an invisible ostium. The plasma renin activity was elevated markedly at16.7 ng/ml. We performed PTRA with stenting successfully, because the patient refused surgical revascularization. His blood pressure was controlled successfully and remained so 3 months later. (Korean J Med 75:S838-S842, 2008) |
