Abstract
Hepatocellular adenoma is an uncommon benign liver tumor that occurs mostly in women of childbearing age and is associated with the use of oral contraceptives. Other risk factors, including the use of androgen steroid and type I glycogen storage disease, are also linked to the development of hepatocellular adenoma. However, rare cases of hepatocellular adenoma show no apparent pathogenic factor or drug history. Due to the increased risk of spontaneous life-threatening hemorrhage and potential malignant transformation, surgical resection is the first choice for most lesions. In addition, emergency hepatic arteriography with embolization should be considered to control bleeding in hemodynamically unstable or high-risk patients. Here, we report a case of hepatocellular adenoma with internal hemorrhagic necrosis incidentally detected in an asymptomatic 44-year-old man. (Korean J Med 75:S726-S732, 2008)
