Abstract
Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS), caused by several types of hantavirus (i.e., Hantaan, Dobrava, Seoul, and Puumala), is characterized by fever of acute onset and acute renal insufficiency. The mechanism for renal injury in HFRS remains unclear. Renal biopsy specimens from patients with HFRS caused by Hantaan virus have revealed viral glycoproteins in renal tubular cells. This may suggest that hantaviruses directly contribute to acute renal failure. However, immune mechanisms have been proposed. In this paper, we report a case of HFRS associated with antiglomerular basement membrane antibody and antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody.
Key Words: Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome; Antiglomerular basement membrane antibody; Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody
