Abstract
Fungal endocarditis caused by Aspergillus species is rare, but its prevalence has recently been on the rise in the hospital population. Several conditions predispose patients to Aspergillus infections, including open heart surgery, underlying anatomical cardiac abnormalities, prosthetic valve devices, intravenous drug use, long-term venous catheterization, and prior use of broad-spectrum antibiotics. We report a case of community-acquired, native valve endocarditis caused by Aspergillus fumigatus in a 57-year-old man without predisposing conditions.(Korean J Med 73:S1071-S1075, 2007)
