Abstract |
Sarcoidosis is a systemic granulomatous disorder of unknown cause. Several studies have reported the association
between sarcoidosis and the thyroid with a wide range of variability. We report a case of sarcoidosis presenting with
thyroiditis. A 35-year-old man visited the hospital with a cough lasting for 4 months, palpitation and weight loss. We
performed a chest X-ray and chest CT, which revealed bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy. Biopsy of the bronchus and lung
showed non-caseating granuloma, and thyroid evaluation showed a hyperthyroid status. Finally, the patient was
diagnosed with sarcoidosis with autoimmune thyroiditis, and steroids were administered for the treatment of the
thyroiditis. Therefore, a thyroid function test, thyroid autoantibodies test and ultrasonography should be performed in
patients with sarcoidosis who have the symptoms and signs of thyroid disorders.(Korean J Med 73:S981-S984, 2007) |
