- Abstract
- In the past, increased mortality from emphysematous pyelonephritis in diabetic patients has occurred, and disease treatment was
based on surgical intervention. But newly developed antibiotics and radiographic techniques make early diagnosis and treatment
much more effective without surgical treatment. At present, mortality and complications from emphysematous pyelonephritis in diabetic
patients have decreased as a consequence of such developments. We report a case of emphysematous pyelonephritis and cystitis
that occurred simultaneously in a diabetic patient, without urinary tract obstruction, who was cured with only medical treatment,
and without surgical intervention. (Korean J Med 77:S1241-S1245, 2009)
