Abstract
Cap polyposis is a rare condition characterized by mucoid bloody diarrhea associated with erythematous inflammatory colonic polyps covered with an adherent mucoid cap. Despite its rarity and lack in the malignant potential, correct diagnosis is important since its symptoms mimic inflammatory bowel disease. Optimal treatment has not yet been established and several therapeutic approaches have been tried. We experienced a 63 year-old woman with cap polyposis cured by endoscopic mucosal resection. She visited our hospital due to intractable bloody diarrhea and low abdominal pain. Colonoscopic examination demonstrated multiple polyps with surface erosion on the rectosigmoid colon, between 15-25 cm from the anal verge. The polyps were removed successfully by endoscopic mucosal resection. There was no evidence of endoscopic recurrence at 3 months and clinical recurrence at 12 months. Herein, we report this case with a brief review of literature. Key word : Cap polyposis, Endoscopic mucosal resection
