- Abstract
- A 40 year old woman with a past history of Sjogren's syndrome presented with complaints of general weakness and weight loss. Abdomen CT revealed wall thickening in hepatic flexure of colon. FDG positron emission tomography (PET) showed hypermetabolic lesion in ascending colon. She was diagnosed as having colon cancer and underwent right hemicolectomy. Pathologic finding showed non-caseating granuloma consistent with sarcoidosis. The same granulomatous lesion was found in the lung and serum angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) level was elevated. She was diagnosed as having sarcoidosis with primary Sjogren's syndrome. She received oral steroid therapy. Her general condition improved and serum ACE level was decreased. Occasionally, sarcoidosis and Sjogren's syndrome may coexist in the same patient and is now thought to share common pathologic process. This case is the first report of such coexistence in Korea.(Korean J Med 70:S352-S357, 2006)
