Abstract
Rhabdomyolysis is the clinical and laboratory syndrome resulting from skeletal muscle injury and release of potentially toxic substances in the circulation and can develop from a variety of medical causes. Drugs, toxins, infections and ischemia are important causes of nontraumatic rhabdomyolysis, but metabolic conditions such as hypokalemia, diabetic ketoacidosis, hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state can result in rhabdomyolysis. A high clinical suspicion for the occurrence of rhabdomyolysis in the medical condition can lead to quicker recognition and better patient care. We report a case of hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state associated with nontraumatic rhabdomyolysis.(Korean J Med 70:S267-S271, 2006) Key Words : Rhabdomyolysis, Hyperglycemic hyperosmolar nonketotic coma
