- Abstract
- It has been reported that D-penicillamine has pulmonary, renal, hepatobilliary and hematologic side effects. However, it is extremely rare that pulmonary infiltration occurs with cholestatic jaundice at the same time.
A 44-year-old woman with morphea developed fever and cough following a short exposure to D-penicillamine (10 days). Her sclera was slightly icteric and the liver function test was abnormal.
Bilateral diffuse ground glass appearance of lung was observed on HRCT. Liver biopsy revealed cholestasis with portal inflammation and hepatocytes injury. The patient regained a satisfactory recovery after cessation of D-penicillamine without steroid therapy. Simultaneous occurrence of drug-induced pneumonitis and cholestatic jaundice following even a short exposure to D-penicillamine should be recognized.(Korean J Med 69:S964-S969, 2005)
