Abstract |
Malignancy of unknown origin is not unusual and has a poor prognosis. We report a case of metastatic squamous cell cancer to
the psoas muscle and the lumbar spine as a malignancy of unknown origin, in which a metastatic survey had no definite primary
focus. Based on the results of immunohistochemical staining, including for p63 and human herpes virus 8, we believed the origin of
this metastatic squamous cell carcinoma to have been a uterine cervical cancer. Combined treatments, including cytoreductive surgery,
cisplatin-based combination chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, were performed. The patient responded completely and has
been alive for 20 months after the diagnosis. (Korean J Med 77:S1298-S1303, 2009) |
