Abstract |
Pulmonary giant cell carcinoma is a rare lung tumor characterized by its highly malignant and aggressive clinical course. It was
first identified in 1958 by Nash and Stout and the diagnosis was usually made postoperatively or by autopsy. Early diagnosis is essential
for treating the tumor and distinguishing it from other types of lung cancer. Pulmonary giant cell carcinoma is usually located
in the lung periphery, and computed tomography (CT) or fluoroscopic guided percutaneous fine needle aspiration makes the
diagnosis possible. Recently, endobronchial ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration (EBUS-FNA) has been gaining popularity because
it allows for an approach to a centrally located lung mass that is not visible by routine bronchoscopy. We report a case of pulmonary
giant cell carcinoma that presented as a central lung mass and was diagnosed by EBUS-FNA. (Korean J Med 77:S1198-
