Abstract
Primary squamous cell carcinoma of the pancreas is a very rare form of pancreatic cancer; the incidence is approximately 0.5~3.5% of all pancreatic malignancies. Although squamous metaplasia of the ductal columnar cells can be observed during periods of inflammation, the histogenesis of primary squamous cell carcinoma of the pancreas is uncertain. The cancer has been reported to be poorly responsive to chemotherapy or radiation. We report an unusual case of primary squamous cell carcinoma of the pancreas with multiple liver metastases, which responded favorably to gemcitabine, capecitabine, and cisplatin combination chemotherapy. We also present a brief review of the literature.
