Abstract |
Dapsone syndrome is a rare hypersensitivity reaction to dapsone and is characterized by a high fever, papular or
exfoliative dermatitis, hemolytic anemia, liver toxicity and generalized lymphadenopathy. It is difficult to differentiate
dapsone syndrome from any other viral rash, such as infectious mononucleosis.
We report a case of a 59-year-old woman who presented with severe hepatitis after receiving 100 mg of dapsone once
daily for 6 weeks due to suspicious Behcet's disease. Fever, severe hepatitis, mobiliform rashes on her entire body,
hemolytic anemia and acute renal failure developed. The patient recovered successfully without any serious complications
following the discontinuation of dapsone and the administration of steroids (0.5 mg/kg).(Korean J Med 73:S915-S919, 2007) |
