Abstract |
Ulcerative colitis (UC) is frequently associated with many extraintestinal manifestations. Among them, primary
sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) shows a 1~5% incidence in patients with UC. PSC is a progressive inflammatory
disease affecting the extrahepatic and intrahepatic bile ducts, characteristic radiologic and histologic findings. PSC
is not correlated with the course of UC. We report a 25-year-old man with UC combined with PSC. He was
diagnosed with UC 6 years ago. Four years ago, ERCP was done due to his abnormal liver function test (LFT),
but it showed no abnormal findings. At this time, he again presented with fatigue and an abnormal LFT.
For investigating the extrahepatic and intrahepatic bile ducts, we checked the MRCP. His MRCP showed mild
dilatation of the peripheral portion of both intrahepatic ducts with multiple strictures, which was compatible with
PSC. We prescribed UDCA for him and he was followed regullary.(Korean J Med 73:S890-S894, 2007) |
