Abstract
Acquired and genetic factors contribute to the likelihood of venous thromboembolism. Any vascular complications associated with Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection have rarely been reported. We describe here a case of pulmonary thromboembolism of the right pulmonary artery that was associated with tuberculous pleurisy. No other risk factors for thromboembolism were identified in this patient. Physicians should be aware that severe tuberculosis induces a hypercoagulable state and this is sometimes complicated by deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary thromboembolism.
