Abstract
Although E. histolytica infection is common among the populations at risk for HIV infection, only a few cases of invasive amebiasis has been reported in homosexuals or AIDS patients. We present here the case of a 37-year old man with HIV-infection who had fever and watery diarrhea for 21 days. We confirmed the diagnosis of amebic liver abscess and amebic colitis by serologic testing and the clinical symptoms were confirmed via the CT findings. Metronidazole and paromomycin were given for treatment. Invasive amebiasis should be suspected in HIV infected patients, and especially when they have enteritis symptoms.(Korean J Med 71:S1170-S1174, 2006)
