Abstract |
A 36 year old woman, who haddelivered a baby 5 months ago, was admitted to the hospital because of generalized myalgia and edema.During the evaluation of her edema, we found hypothyroidism and elevated levels of several muscle enzymes. The radioisotope test results showeda focal hot uptake in the right calf muscle. The patient was diagnosed as postpartum thyroiditis accompanied with rhabdomyolysis; however, she had no specific causes of rhabdomyolysis. Her generalized myalgia and edema were improved after normalization of the thyroid function. Myopathy can be seen in hypothyroidism, but postpartum thyroiditis with hypothyroidism accompanying rhabdomyolysis is rare. We report here on this case along with a review of the related literature.(Korean J Med 71:S1133-S1137, 2006) |
