Abstract
Bee venom is a complex substance that acts on several tissues and it can cause detrimental reactions and effects. In comparison with apids, vespids have more toxic venom and it can bring about serious results after relatively smaller stings. Although bee venom causes many adverse reactions and toxic effects, acute hepatitis and acute renal failure (ARF) are unusual complications of bee stings. We present here a case of thrombocytopenia, acute hepatitis and ARF associated with rhabdomyolysis, which developed after about 50 hornet stings. The patient's condition progressively deteriorated and sadly, she died due to sepsis.(Korean J Med 71:S1079-S1083, 2006)
