Abstract
Adenoid cystic carcinoma is a malignant neoplasm that generally arises the minor salivary glands, and it infrequently arises as a primary tumor in the lung. Surgery has been considered the primary treatment, but radiotherapy is generally utilized for adjuvant or palliative treatment. Chemotherapy also has limited effect for treating adenoid cystic carcinoma. We report here on a patient for whom concurrent chemoradiation was successfully applied to treat adenoid cystic carcinoma in the trachea.A total of 50.4 Gy (daily dose: 1.8 Gy) was delivered over a 6 week period together with a weekly paclitaxel (45 mg/m2) and cisplatin (20 mg/m2) infusion for 6 weeks. After that, four cycles of consolidation chemotherapy was done (paclitaxel + cisplatin). Complete clinical and histological remission was achieved without any evidence of recurrence during a 23-months follow up period.(Korean J Med 71:S1020-S1024, 2006)
