Abstract
Superior vena cava (SVC) thrombus is rare, but its incidence has significantly increased due to the frequent use of central venous catheters. Until now, the optimal diagnostic and therapeutic options for SVC thrombus have not been established. We present here a case with central venous catheter-related SVC thrombus in an acute pancreatitis patient. The mass in the SVC was incidentally identified by computed tomography and it was confirmed as a large SVC thrombus by transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). After administering anticoagulation, the thrombus of the SVC completely disappeared on TEE follow-up.(Korean J Med 71:S1008-S1012, 2006)
