Abstract
True cysts of the pancreas are rare as compared to pseudocyst formation after prior pancreatitis. Lymphoepithelial cysts of the pancreas are rare true cystic tumors that are histologically characterized by a mature, keratinizing squamous epithelial lining and dense lymphoid tissue. A 62-year-old male was admitted with a 1 year history of intermittent upper abdominal discomfort. The physical examination and laboratory studies did not show any abnormal findings except mild upper abdominal tenderness. Computed tomography of the abdomen showed a 5.5 cm well-circumscribed, uniloculated cystic mass on the tail of the pancreas. Simple cyst enucleation was performed. The histopathologic diagnosis was a lymphoepithelial cyst of the pancreas. Lymphoepithelial cyst of the pancreas is an unusual and benign entity; it can be cured by local excision. We report here on such a case along with a review of the literature.(Korean J Med 71:S974-S978, 2006)
