Abstract
Ventricular diverticulum is a very rare disease and defined as outpouching from the ventricular wall composed of three normal layers. Possible etiologies include intrinsic abnormalities during embryogenesis or acquired malformations in utero. It may be asymptomatic or cause systemic embolization, heart failure, valvular regurgitation, ventricular rupture. On the other hand, left ventricular rupture following myocardial infarction is the second most common cause of death. Successful treatment should require prompt diagnosis and emergency operation. Transthoracic echocardiography has been the procedure of choice in the diagnosis. We report a case of left ventricular rupture due to small single diagonal artery obstruction in patient with ventricular diverticulum.(Korean J Med 70:S199-S205, 2006) Key Words : Left ventricle, Diverticulum, Heart rupture, Coronary occlusion
