Intraductal papillary mucinous tumor (IPMT) of the pancreas is a premalignant lesion consisting of mucin-producing cells with neoplastic potential. This tumor is characterized by ductal ectasia, mucin hypersecretion, often extensive papillary intraductal growth, varying degrees of cytologic atypia, and relatively indolent growth. A case is herein reported of a 57 year-old man who suffered from recurrent bouts of acute pancreatitis and chronic recurrent epigastric pain mimicking obstructive pancreatitis. We here emphasize the causative role of IPMT in the development of recurrent pancreatitis with review of the literatures on IPMT associated recurrent pancreatitis.(Korean J Med 70:S178-S183, 2006)
