Abstract |
The clinical features of abdominal actinomycosis are nonspecific and commonly confused with a neoplasm. Although any condition that allows the agents of actinomycosis to breach the gastrointestinal mucosa has the potential to be complicated by this infection, actinomycosis rarely develops as a complication of Crohn's disease. Because actinomycosis has indolent clinical course and manifestations similar to inflammatory bowel disease, it should be suspected that other chronic inflammatory process such as Crohn's disease could be associated when active abdominal actinomycosis is recurrent despite appropriate anti-microbial treatment. Herein, we report a case of Crohn's disease associated with abdominal actinomycosis.(Korean J Med 70:695-700, 2006)
