Abstract |
A pseudoaneurysm is a rare complication of surgery, trauma, or arterial puncture. Postoperative complications following peritoneal dialysis catheter removal are reported infrequently. We treated a patient who developed a pseudoaneurysm of the inferior epigastric artery after removal of a Tenckhoff catheter. The initial plain radiographs of the chest and abdomen were normal, whereas computed tomography (CT) revealed a massive hematoma with active bleeding in the left rectus abdominis muscle. Angiography showed rupture of the inferior epigastric artery with extravasation of the blood. Consequently, coil and glue embolization was performed. Subsequently, no bleeding was seen from the inferior epigastric artery. Follow-up CT showed that the intramuscular hematoma in the left rectus abdominis muscle had decreased in size. We emphasize the value of percutaneous angiography and coil embolization in the treatment of this complication. |
