Abstract
Carcinoid tumors arise from neuroendocrine cells and are usually found in the appendix, ileum, stomach, and rectum. Ampullary carcinoid tumor is extremely rare and no case of carcinoid tumor of the minor papilla has been reported in Korea. The preoperative diagnosis is very challenging because it is either asymptomatic or manifests as nonspecific abdominal pain. The tumor is relatively small and is located submucosally. We report the unusual case of a patient with chronic hepatitis B who underwent gastroendoscopy as part of a regular health checkup that detected a carcinoid tumor in the minor papilla with synchronous hepatocellular carcinoma found in a subsequent exam.
