Abstract
With growing use of antibiotics, pseudomembranous colitis (PMC) has become a common disease. It may be characterized by diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, leukocytosis, hypoalbuminemia, and hypovolemia, though it may develop clinically in various ways. Ascites has been demonstrated in 16~77% of PMC patients through abdominal ultrasonography and computed tomography (CT) scans, but few such patients are reported in South Korea. No case with both of ascites and pleural fluid has been reported in South Korea. We report one case in which a patient with pleural fluid and high CEA and CA-125 in the serum, along with ascites, was diagnosed with PMC and recovered after oral administration of metronidazole.
