Abstract |
The end stage of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is generally considered to be systolic ventricular dysfunction. The
majority of patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy showed cavity dilatation, wall thinning, and symptoms of heart
failure. Repetitive myocardial necrosis may be responsible for the gradual deterioration due to congestive heart failure
over the course of several years. Myocardial necrosis in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is not uncommon,
even in the absence of significant coronary artery disease. Here, we describe two cases of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
complicated with myocardial necrosis in the absence of significant coronary artery disease. With comprehensive cardiac
MR imaging, we can demonstrate the potential pathophysiologic mechanism of myocardial necrosis in hypertrophic
cardiomyopathy.(Korean J Med 73:S961-S965, 2007) |
