Abstract |
Dermatomyositis is a disease characterized by non-pyogenic inflammation of the skin and muscles in which the
tissues and cells are damaged by pathogenic autoantibodies and immune complexes. Unlike interstitial lung disease,
which is reported to occur in 15~30% of patients with dermatomyositis and polymyositis, renal lesions are rarely present
with dermatomyositis and polymyositis. Only a few isolated cases of dermatomyositis associated glomerulonephritis have
been reported to date. Therefore, we present a case of nephropathy as a primary manifestation of dermatomyositis. A
32-year-old female patient was admitted for renal biopsy due to facial edema and proteinuria. Renal biopsy showed the
findings of minimal change nephropathy. Heliotroph rash and Gottron’s papules were noted on the physical examination.
The findings of EMG, MRI of the thigh and thigh muscle biopsy were compatible with those of dermatomyositis. Minimal
change nephropathy is a rare manifestation in patients with dermatomyositis, and we report this case with a review of
literature.(Korean J Med 73:S1101-S1105, 2007) |
